The League Bloggers Awards (also called LBA) is an independent initiative created to celebrate players, coaches, and administrators in:

  • Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL)
  • Nigeria Women Football League
  • Nigeria National League

Originally known as the Naija Premier League Online Award, the initiative began in 2009 and was rebranded to League Bloggers Awards in 2012.

Monthly awards, including Player of the Month and Coach of the Month, were the foundation of the initiative from 2009 until the first End-of-Season Award was held in 2012.

Note: The End-of-Season awards ceremony did not hold in 2015, 2018, 2020, and 2021 due to various challenges, including league suspension and the COVID-19 pandemic.

History

Founded in 2009 by Ojeikere Aikhoje and George Akpayen, the awards were originally known as the Naija Premier League Online Awards. The idea was born during the Super 4 Pre-Season Tournament held in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.

In 2012, the awards transitioned from a monthly-only event to a full seasonal event under the new name League Bloggers Awards (LBA).

  • Reuben Gabriel was the first winner of the Player of the Season Award.
  • Since 2012, the ceremony has been held annually in Lagos, with the exception of:
    • 2015 – No event
    • 2018 – League suspension
    • 2020 – COVID-19 pandemic
    • 2021 – Event not held
