Biography
Ikenwoli Godfrey Emiko was a prominent Nigerian traditional ruler and the 20th Olu of Warri, a key figure among the Itsekiri people of Delta State, Nigeria. He was born on 19 March 1955 to Olu Erejuwa II (who reigned from 1951 to 1986) and Olori Eyinagboluwade.
He ascended the throne after the death of his brother, Olu Atuwatse II, in March 2015. His coronation as Ogiame Ikenwoli I took place on 12 December 2015 at Ode-Itsekiri, the ancestral home of the Itsekiri. The ceremony was attended by notable Nigerian dignitaries including:
- David Babachir Lawal (then Secretary to the Federal Government)
- Senator Ifeanyi Okowa (Governor of Delta State)
- Emmanuel Uduaghan (former Governor of Delta State)
- Bola Ahmed Tinubu (National Leader of the All Progressives Congress)
Ogiame Ikenwoli was known for his commitment to the socio-economic and cultural development of the Itsekiri nation. He was married to Olori Mary Emiko, and they had three children.
Olu Ikenwoli reportedly passed away on 21 December 2020 due to complications related to COVID-19 during the pandemic in Nigeria.
