Muhammad Hameem Nuhu Sunusi CFR
Muhammad Hameem Nuhu Sunusi (born 26 February 1979) is a Nigerian monarch and the 22nd Emir of Dutse, the capital of Jigawa State in Northern Nigeria. He ascended the throne in 2024 following the death of his father, Nuhu Muhammad-Sanusi, the 21st Emir of Dutse. Before his ascension, he held the traditional title Dan Iyan Dutse.
On 28 May 2023, he was awarded the Commander of the Federal Republic (CFR) by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Early Life and Education
Muhammad Hameem Nuhu Sunusi was born in Kano, where he began his early education. He attended Kano Capital School and later Airforce Primary School for his nursery and primary education. His secondary education was at Crescent International and Federal Government College, Kano.
After completing his basic education in Nigeria, he proceeded to Malaysia for his higher education, earning both a bachelor's and a master's degree. Upon returning to Nigeria, he participated in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in 2006, serving at the National Assembly in Abuja.
In 1995, he relocated to Jigawa State following his father’s installation as Emir of Dutse.
Career
Muhammad Hameem began his career in entrepreneurship, later transitioning to engineering, a long-held passion. His professional experience includes:
- Head of Business Development, Bilyak Consulting (2007–2011)
- Head of Northern Region, SMD Consulting (2011–2016)
- Managing Director, HMS Energies Limited
His leadership roles in business and engineering preceded his coronation as Emir, where he is expected to bring modern administrative insights to traditional leadership.
