Dennis Osadebay University, Asaba

Dennis Osadebay University (DOU) is a public university located in Asaba, Delta State, Nigeria. It is one of three new universities established by the Delta State Government and approved by the National Universities Commission (NUC) in 2021.

The university currently offers undergraduate programmes and operates with seven faculties, including the newly added Faculty of Allied Health Sciences. The Vice Chancellor of Dennis Osadebay University is Professor Ben Emukufia Akpoyomare Oghojafor.


History

Dennis Osadebay University was formerly the Anwai Campus of Delta State University.

  • In January 2021, Governor Ifeanyi A. Okowa announced plans to convert:

    • Delta State University, Anwai Campus
    • Delta State Polytechnic, Ozoro
    • College of Education, Agbor

    into full-fledged universities.

  • The bills proposing the conversion were read on January 28, 2021 in the Delta State House of Assembly.

  • By February 2021, the bills were passed into law following review by the House Committee on Education.

While signing the bill, Governor Okowa remarked:

“As the students of our technical education start to progress from the technical colleges to the polytechnics, they also have a chance of going further to the University of Science and Technology.”
