Delta State University, Abraka – popularly known as DELSU – is a state government-owned university in Nigeria with its main campus located at Abraka, Delta State, and a sub-campus at Oleh. The university operates a multi-campus structure, with campuses about 52 km apart. DELSU had a student population of approximately 22,000 during the 2019/2020 session and offers a wide range of academic programs, including certificate, diploma, undergraduate, part-time, and postgraduate programs. DELSU is accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC).
History
The institution began as a Government Teachers’ Training College during the colonial era, later becoming a College of Education awarding the Nigerian Certificate of Education (N.C.E.) from 1971 to 1985. In 1981, it affiliated with the University of Benin to offer degree programs. In 1985, it became the Faculty of Education of the former Bendel State University. After the creation of Delta and Edo States in 1991 and the transformation of Bendel State University to Edo State University, DELSU was established as an autonomous university on 30 April 1992 by Governor Olorogun Felix Ibru.

Students’ Union Government
The Students’ Union Government (SUG) is supervised by the Dean of Student Affairs and consists of elected student executives. DELSU conducted Nigeria’s first-ever fully online SUG election using a software system that allowed students to vote from any location via their devices.
Library
The newly commissioned ultra-modern library seats 4,500 users and includes relaxation areas, phone charging stations, an eatery, call areas, an elevator, and a virtual library.
