Carmen Elizabeth Ejogo (born 22 October 1973) is a British actress and singer. She is known for her roles in films such as Metro (1997), Love's Labour's Lost (2000), What's the Worst That Could Happen? (2001), Boycott (2001), Away We Go (2009), Sparkle (2012), Alex Cross (2012), The Purge: Anarchy (2014), Selma (2014), Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (2016), It Comes at Night (2017), Alien: Covenant (2017), and Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (2018).
On television, she has starred in the series Kidnapped (2006–2007), Zero Hour (2013), The Girlfriend Experience (2017), True Detective (2019), Self Made (2020), and Your Honor (2021). She also appeared in the Amazon series I'm a Virgo.
Early Life
Ejogo was born in Kensington, London, England, to a Scottish mother, Elizabeth (née Douglas), and a Nigerian father, Charles Ejogo. She describes her mother as "a bit of a hippie." She attended the Oratory Roman Catholic Primary School, Glendower Preparatory School, and later, Godolphin and Latymer School.
Career
Ejogo began her career as the host of Saturday Disney (1993–1995). She has appeared in various films including:

She portrayed Seraphina Picquery in the Fantastic Beasts film series and played Amelia Reardon in True Detective (2019).
Ejogo portrayed Coretta Scott King in Boycott (2001) and again in Selma (2014). She met with King while preparing for Boycott and received her blessing.
Music Career
In the 1990s, Ejogo was active in the music industry. She hosted The Carmen Ejogo Video Show on BSB's Power Station channel and collaborated with several artists:
- Wrote and performed vocals on "Candles" by DJ Alex Reece (credited as "Carmen")
- Sang duets with then-husband Tricky on the song "Slowly"
- Provided vocals for Love's Labour's Lost (2000)
In Sparkle (2012), she performed:
- "Yes I Do" (solo)
- "Jump", "Hooked on Your Love", and "Something He Can Feel" (with Jordin Sparks and Tika Sumpter)
She also appeared in Colour Blind as Rose Angelina.
Personal Life
Ejogo was briefly married to musician Tricky. In 2000, she married actor Jeffrey Wright, whom she met during the filming of Boycott. They have two children:
- Son: Elijah (b. 18 October 2001)
- Daughter: Juno (b. 14 April 2004)
The couple has since divorced.
