After a notable career in the 1980s and 1990s, Soky took a break from acting and later returned to the screen with appearances in Nollywood films and modern television series.

Acting Career

Barbara Soky's first major acting role was as Rosemary Hart, an office receptionist, in the NTA Port Harcourt series Inside Out. Originally a local production, the sitcom gained widespread popularity across Eastern Nigeria after syndication across NTA stations.

She also starred alongside Adiela Onyedibia in You Can't Take Your Wife to New York, a series centered around a Nigerian ambassador and his unrefined wife.

Following the conclusion of Inside Out, Soky relocated to Lagos, where she landed a breakthrough role in Lola Fani-Kayode's serial Mirror in the Sun. Soky went on to become an original cast member of the soap opera Ripples, where she played Daphne Wellington-Cole, a city lawyer struggling with romantic misfortunes, from 1988 to 1993. She later reprised the role in the show's 2022 revival, Ripples: The New Generation.

After a 13-year hiatus, during which she briefly worked as a television presenter, Soky returned to acting with Amaka Igwe's drama series Solitaire, portraying Nkoyo Broderick, a determined matriarch protecting her family's wealth. She also appeared in the contemporary music drama series Journey of the Beats.
