Ayoka Olufunmilayo Adebambo is a Nigerian scientist and professor of Animal Breeding and Genetics. She is notable as the first female professor and the first Head of the Department of Animal Breeding and Genetics in Nigeria. In September 2010, she was named a Fellow of the Animal Science Association of Nigeria (ASAN).

Education

  • B.Sc. in Animal Science – University of Ibadan
  • Ph.D. in Animal Breeding – University of Ibadan

Career

  • Began her academic career as a demonstrator at the University of Ibadan.
  • Later joined the Institute of Agricultural Research and Training, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, where she worked on pig breed improvement for commercialization.
  • In 1993, she joined the Department of Animal Breeding and Genetics, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta.
  • Currently serves as a member of the University Governing Council.
  • Has held visiting scholar positions at:
    • Roslin Institute, Scotland
    • Poultry Breeding Institute, Hesaraghatta, India
    • Ohio State University, United States
